Two more companies terminate their domains

Two more companies with dot-brand top level domain names have recently notified ICANN that they wish to terminate their domains. One of them is German Blanco GmbH company, which sells sinks and faucets. In this case, the question is not why the domain name is being terminated, but rather why the company would get one in the first place. The case of the second company, however, is different. According to Domain Name Wire, it is the German company SPIEGEL-Verlag Rudolf Augstein GmbH & Co. KG, which is the publisher of the magazine Spiegel.

Spiegel is one of the most popular and respected weekly news and analysis magazines in Germany and possibly even in Europe. It has a weekly circulation of about 840,000; its internet version called Spiegel Online is highly popular as well. The fact that such a large and successful media company failed to make use of the domain, never registering any name apart from the obligatory nic.spiegel, is surely unfortunate.
