Domain business sets Guinness record

Afilias reported that it has set a Guinness world record. The company won the right to operate the Australian .au ccTLD beating out Neustar who had previously provided this service. The migration of 3,153,979 .au domain names to Afilias took place on July 1, which set a Guinness World Records title for the largest migration of internet top-level domains in a single transition. This was officially announced at an event held in New York yesterday, on September 18.

It is noteworthy that Afilias beat its own record. In 2003, it became the technical operator of.org gTLD managing about 2.7 million domain names, or about 400,000 names fewer than the new record.
