.FUN reaches new milestone

Radix domain registry announced that its new gTLD .FUN now has over 100,000 registered domain names. The domain was initially delegated to Oriental Trading Company, which belongs to famous investor Warren Buffett. The company specializes in manufacturing and selling party supplies and was going to use the domain for this purpose. However, the company quickly abandoned this idea and sold the domain to Radix, which reconsidered the concept and made the domain open for registration.

Now the domain is up and coming. Radix representative Swati Maheshwari said that “.FUN is one of the few new TLDs that evoke a primary human emotion giving it broad appeal. The keyword ‘fun’ is also easily understood even in non-English speaking geographies.” This explains the stable growth in the number of registrations. But DN Journal points out that the domain is successful not only in terms of the number of names, but also in terms of quality. Domain names in .FUN are being actively used in the creation of websites by popular actors, famous designers, large tourist agencies and technology startups. At the moment, some 36 percent of registrations are made in the US, followed by Europe, Russia and Japan. In November 2017, the domain was licensed by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, which means the outlook for the domain is very optimistic.
