Four more dot-brand domains no longer wanted by owners

Three companies requested termination of registry agreements on their gTLDs with ICANN, Domain Incite reports. All three cases involve dot-brand gTLDs. Equinor energy company (Norway) no longer intends to use its delegated domain .STATOIL, for obvious reasons. Previously called Statoil, the company underwent rebranding. Cimpress (the Netherlands) is getting rid of its .VISTA domain for similar reasons. It used to operate under the name of Vistaprint and, in fact, continues to use the brand. Therefore, it is keeping .VISTAPRINT but giving up .VISTA.

Richemont (Switzerland) specializing in luxury products is a different story. In the past, the company applied for 14 gTLDs but, apparently, had no specific purpose for them and is now gradually abandoning them. Its latest victims are .PANERAI and .JLC intended for exclusive watch brands, Panerai and Jaeger-LeCoultre.

None of the four scrapped domains have ever had any active websites. The total number of new gTLDs dropped by their owners has reached 36, all classified as dot-brands.
