Covfefe domains are money down the drain

The Domains publication has reported that several dozen domain names registered a year ago following a funny misspelling by US President Donald Trump are expiring. In May 2017, Trump used a nonexistent word covfefe in his tweet. The word immediately became a meme and was followed by numerous online jokes. The domain space was no exception. It was reported earlier, that names using the word covfefe were registered in over 50 gTLDs.

Even then, experts warned that such registrations were a waste of money. Memes have a brief lifespan and the public often loses interest in them just a few days after their creation. The forecasts were correct: at present, the Name.com platform offers over a dozen covfefe domains – covfefe.cafe, covfefe.media, covfefe.social, covfefe.place etc. It is obvious that the number will be growing. Their previous users have abandoned them as unnecessary, and have not renewed the registration. It also seems unlikely that anyone will purchase them. For example, covfefe.com has already been put up for auction twice, but nobody was interested. The Domains sarcastically notes that donating money to charity would have been a better option than registering useless and meaningless domain names.
