ICANN Policy Forum fosters productive discussion

The 62nd ICANN public meeting has begun in Panama City, the so-called Policy Forum. Lasting only four days, it is the shortest of the three annual meetings of ICANN. Its participants focus primarily on the work of advisory committees, technical working groups and supporting organizations such as ccNSO and gNSO.

Before the official opening of the forum, the ICANN Accountability Working Group met to review the earlier amendments to the working group report. In particular, they discussed the open and transparent policy of ICANN contracting; the main recommendation was to transparently describe and rationalize all contracts signed by the corporation, except for those that contain confidential information that could affect the safe and stable operation of the internet.

The contract details should include names, countries of origin and the amount of money transfers to contractors (if the contract amount exceeds $500,000). Once the amendments are made, the working group report will be sent to the ccNSO, gNSO and other organizations to collect further comments. The final approval of the report will take place at the 63rd meeting in Barcelona in October.

“The Policy Forum does not include as many official events, ceremonies and general meetings where high-profile statements are made. However, it fosters productive work in various subgroups and side discussions of problems of managing the global address system”, Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU / .РФ Andrei Vorobyev said.
