Donuts has announced that it has purchased the rights to administer .fan gTLD from Asiamix Digital, which is struggling with financial difficulties. Asiamix Digital also manages the .fans TLD but the company was not interested in it. Donuts now administers 241 gTLDs.
The domain has a curious history. Initially it was delegated to Donuts but then transferred to Rightside as part of a large deal involving more than 100 domains. Later, Rightside sold it to Asiamix Digital, with no company having time to launch registration in the domain zone. According to Domain Incite, Donuts plans to launch the domain in short order, with general availability expected in mid-September.
