Denmark ignores GDPR

As has been repeatedly stated, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which came into force in the EU, resulted in a ban on publishing the names and contact information of registrants in WHOIS. Not waiting for an appropriate ICANN decision, many European registrars and registries stopped publishing the relevant data, fearing large fines. But there are some exceptions. One is the national domain of Denmark .DK. According to the Danish Internet Forum (DIFO), which administers the national domain, registrant data will continue to be published in WHOIS in full.

The reason is that the need to publish names and the contact information of registrants is written into Denmark law. The rationale is the requirement for maintaining the transparency and security of the global network. In this situation, the standards of national law have priority over GDPR requirements. Thus, the entry into force of the General Data Protection Regulation will not affect the administration of the .DK domain.
