Today, the sunrise registration period has ended for .APP top level domain name. The website domain is operated by Google, which purchased the rights for it via a winning bid for $25 million. And it appears that such a massive investment has approved its worth. .APP has already beaten the first record, with over 3,000 domains registered in its zone during the sunrise registration period. According to Domain Incite, the previous record was set back in 2015 by .PORN, with 2,091 domains.
The Early Access Period, a descending price auction which allows registration for members of the public to register domains under certain potentially appealing extensions, is going rather successfully as well. By now, the number of .APP domain names registered in the zone has exceeded 6,000. Tomorrow, the general availability period opens, with the domains registration costing between $15-$20 and a large number of registrants expected.
