The sale of the domain name vacation.rentals has been reported online. According to Domain Name Wire, the domain name was sold by the registry Donuts. The buyer is Vacarent LLC, a vacation rental company that rivals such services as Airbnb and HomeAway. Vacarent LLC has already launched their new website on vacation.rentals. The all-cash transaction totaled $500,300, setting a new record for the highest price paid for a new generic top-level domain (gTLD), beating out the sale of home.loans for $500,000.
DNJournal website has listed the deal in its traditional year-to-date chart of the highest reported domain sales. Vacation.rentals comes in fifth on the chart, being the only new gTLD of the top five entries.
