Large businesses continue to show disappointment in the new generic top-level domains (gTLDs). Two more companies notified ICANN that they didn't wish to use already delegated dot-brands. Domain Name Wire reports that Portuguese communications company MEO Servicos de Comunicacoes e Multimedia, S.A. abandoned both of its domains – .MEO and .SAPO (the name of one of its brands). At the same time, Sony Mobile Communications AB decided it didn't need .XPERIA domain. This decision seems especially telling because the company keeps selling Xperia mobile devices.
It was reported previously that another large tech company HTC abandoned its dot-brand. Domain .HTC was 27th in the list of abandoned dot-brands. Therefore, considering that there are three more cancelled dot-brands, their number has already reached 30.
