Resolution, adopted by the ICANN Board of Directors, has been published on the ICANN’s official website. It concerns new generic top-level domains (gTLDs) .CORP, .HOME and .MAIL. It was reported many times previously that these domains were considered very promising. They received a lot of applications, 20 of which still haven't been withdrawn. However, technical tests demonstrated that due to the collision of names in local networks these domains generate large volumes of erroneous traffic. This means that their launch might be a threat to the security and stability of the domain system.
As a result at the last meeting the ICANN Board adopted a final resolution that domains .CORP, .HOME and .MAIL. would not go live during this stage of the New gTLDs Program. Domain applicants can get a refund of the entire application fee - $185 thousand if they withdrawn their applications for the domains. The resolution highlights that ICANN rules do not oblige the corporation to give a full fee refund in case the domain can't go live for objective reasons. However, ICANN believes that this solution is the most acceptable and fair.
