China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology extended the list of top-level domains that the citizens and companies of the country could use. Technically, Chinese companies and individuals can register domain names in all domain zones; however, they can launch websites only in the domain zones that the Ministry has approved. This time the list of approved names increased by 27 top-level domains. They are .ART, .DESIGN, .WIKI, .LOVE, .CENTER, .VIDEO, .SOCIAL, .TEAM, .SHOW, .COOL, .ZONE, .WORLD, .TODAY, .CITY, .CHAT, .COMPANY, .LIVE, .FUND, .GOLD, .PLUS, .GURU, .RUN, .PUB, .EMAIL, .LIFE, as well as .餐厅 и .招聘 (“restaurant” and “recruiting” in Chinese, respectively).
Therefore, the number of domains approved by the Chinese authorities has more than doubled, points out the Online Domain. Previously, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology licensed a little over 20 domains that use Latin characters in domain names.
