Verisign has published its “hot ten” of the month. It includes key words that were used the most often during the month when registering new domain names in generic top-level domains .COM and .NET. It’s important to note that these are not the words that were used in registered names in absolute numbers, but words that demonstrated the highest growth compared to the previous month. Nevertheless, the “tens” give a clear idea of trends that interest registrants the most.
Normally top ten words are quite mixed. In this sense the November result for .COM is quite unique, points out the Domain Name Wire: almost all words, that showed the most significant growth, were linked to cryptocurrency. This is how the November top ten for .COM looks like: 1. Coin, 2. Crypto, 3. Bit, 4. Bitcoin, 5. Coins, 6. Ethereum, 7. Currency, 8. Amazon, 9. CryptoCurrency, 10. Mining. As you can see, nine out of ten words have direct connection to different cryptocurrencies or their mining. The only exception is Amazon, but even this one hardly an exception. As it was reported previously, Amazon itself registered several “cryptocurrency” names, including amazoncryptocurrencies.com, amazoncryptocurrency.com and amazonethereum.com. On this basis, many observers came to the conclusion that the company intends to launch its own cryptocurrency in the near future.
