World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) published the report for 2016. WIPO is one of the institutions that also adjudicates domain disputes and their number grows constantly. Resource The Domains reports that last year the organization adjudicated 3036 complaints on cybersquatting, filed from 109 countries. This is 10% more than a year ago. Companies from financial sector (12% of all appeals) were the ones that complained the most; followed by fashion business and heavy industry and machinery (9% each).
WIPO report also notes an increased number of complaints on domain names in new gTLDs. In 2016 around 16% of all domain disputes that were adjudicated by WIPO happened in new gTLDs. 305 panelists from 47 countries participated in case reviews; the meetings were held in 15 different languages.
