Cherine Chalaby is the next ICANN chair

Working meeting of the ICANN Board just finished in Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay. Among other issues the participants discussed the elections of the new chair, which would take place on the Annual General Meeting in Abu Dhabi during ICANN's 60th meeting early November. Members of the Board reached consensus about the candidate. In approximately a month it will be Cherine Chalaby. Current chair Steve Crocker reported this in his blog and fully supported the choice of the Board.

Cherine Chalaby was born in Egypt, has British citizenship and lives in Los Angeles. He was elected to ICANN Board in 2010 and lately has been vice-chair. The upcoming change in leadership is significant and reflects the development tendencies of the global network itself. Steve Crocker, who was the Board Chair since 2011, is one of the creators of the Internet. Cherine Chalaby is a representative of large business, who had a successful career at Accenture and investment bank Rasmala Investments.
