The Ministry of Electronics & IT of India has announced its program for a major expansion and transformation of the single government email server. Currently, the user base is 1.6 million, which will be brought to 5 million by providing access for central government and Indian state government employees. First, every governmental official will get a @gov.in account.
The next step will be to create an international governmental email service that will provide every employee with an @सरकार.भारत address (translated from Hindi as “the Government of India”). Promoting use of international email addresses and domains is not the priority, though. The program’s primary objective is to ensure a security mechanism for government data and to enhance government agencies’ productivity and efficiency.
