eBay exercises excessive vigilance

Domain Investing has reported on the latest case of a large company going over the top to protect its brand in the domain space. eBay has sent a letter with threats of prosecution to school teacher Justin Lewis from a small town in the US state of Florida. The online giant was angry about Lewis’s website. It is devoted to environmental problems and is called NatureBay. The company's lawyers found the name eBay in NatureBay, and thus demand that Lewis abandon the domain NatureBay.com. In their opinion, such a domain misleads users regarding the relationship between eBay and NatureBay.

Representatives of the domain industry have expressed indignation over the actions of eBay. They note that the NatureBay logo has nothing to do with the eBay symbol, and that the “eBay” in the domain name is hardly noticeable. Therefore, it is impossible to imagine how a user could confuse these two sites or find them to be affiliated. Lewis said that he does not even have a lawyer at the moment, but he is determined to defend his rights to the domain name.
