The Council of European National Top-Level Domain Registries (CENTR) has published the DomainWire Global TLD Stat Report for the second quarter of this year. According to it, the number of domain names reached 312 million, having grown by 1.9 percent compared to the same period last year. The greatest growth was shown by the national domains of the Asia-Pacific Region states (primarily, the PRC). Next come the new general top-level domains. At the same time, the indicators of “old” domain zones turned out to be much more modest. For example, the domain .COM showed a 1 percent growth, and many other “old” domains had a decrease in the number of names.
The report focuses on the indicators of the national domains of European countries. Thus, almost 58 per cent of all domain name registrations in Europe fall precisely on national domains. Another 39.5 per cent are registered in “old” gTLDs, and only 2.7 per cent are registered in new domain zones. The average percentage of renewal of registrations in national domains is estimated at 83 percent, according to the report.
