The Los Angeles LGBT Center said it had been donated the domain gay.com, which was bought last year by VS Media. The domain is run as a LGBT community website and gets about 200,000 visits per month.
According to the Los Angeles LGBT Center, shortly after acquiring the domain, VS Media announced its intention to donate it to the LGBT charity with the most interesting plans for its use. The Los Angeles Center, which became the winner of this peculiar tender, was among five contenders.
VS Media estimates the domain’s cost at $6.9 million. And, according to Domain Incite, this figure “does not seem like a hugely implausible number.”
