HTC abandons its dot-brand

Taiwanese mobile phone manufacturer HTC has told ICANN that it is reluctant to use the .htc domain it has been given, Domain Incite reports. The contract between HTC and ICANN will be terminated in the near future. The domain was delegated on April 3, but since then HTC has registered only nic.htc on it.

HTC’s gTLD became the 27th rejected dot-brand. Others include dot-brands of fast food chain McDonalds and kitchen utensils company Pampered Chef . However, if the fact that companies that have nothing to do with technology dump their domains does not come as a surprise, HTC’s decision to cancel its dot-brand is quite unexpected.
