ICANN refuses to support hubs for remote participation in its events

ICANN corporation announced that it would cease to support creation of online hubs for distance participation in its meetings conducted three times per year. Such hubs were any premises where interested enthusiasts who couldn't join an ICANN meeting in person could gather to watch online translations of meetings and also broadcast their audio/video speeches. Domain Incite reminds that for the first time hubs were used for online participation in ICANN meetings in 2010, two years ago the organization decided to support them financially.

Obviously, the idea didn't justify itself. ICANN report reads that hubs were not very actively used, moreover, they were the reason of frequent technical problems. Current decision of ICANN obviously doesn't mean that the corporation declines the very format of online participation in the meetings, it just won't financially support creation of subs for such participation.
