Registrar Tucows refused to work with Uniregistry domains

Tucows, which is the second biggest domain names' registrar after GoDaddy, decided not to work with several new generic top-level domains (gTLDs) administered by Uniregistry. Previously, the registry provoked the biggest scandal in the domain community when it announced the price increase in 16 of its domains: registration and renewal fees will increase multifold, in some cases by over 3000 percent.

The decision was severely criticized by ordinary registrants and representatives of the domain business. In particular, GoDaddy refused to work with Uniregistry domains. Under all this pressure the registry had to moderate its appetites and announce it wouldn't increase the renewal fees for domain names registered before September this year (after that GoDaddy stopped the boycott). Nevertheless, Uniregistry is still accused of greed and short-sightedness; its actions are seen as a threat to the development of the whole program of new gTLDs. Domain Name Wire reports that Tucows refused to work with 9 out of 16 Uniregistry domains, that's where the price increase would be the biggest.
