DN Journal, the domain industry news magazine, has reported the biggest domain sale so far in 2017: a $2.89 million dollar deal for Fly.com in late April. This is more than $1 million higher than the previous 2017 chart leader – 01.com, which was sold for $1.82 million in February.
Fly.com was sold by Travelzoo, which posts online information about the best hotel, airline and travel offers around the world. Travelzoo acquired the domain for $1.76 million in 2009, so the sale netted them a handsome profit of more than $1.1 million. The domain name was sold to an undisclosed buyer, and Whois privacy continues to shield the new domain owner’s identity.
