“The visionary” was left with nothing

The Domains has published a morality tale, which proves that registration of a potentially successful domain name doesn’t guarantee anything for the owner. In April last year entrepreneur from Dallas Shane Burchett registered a domain name TrumpPence2016.com for only $10. Whether it was just a joke or a lucky insight is hard to tell; however, three months later, in July 2016, the Republican Party Congress approved Donald Trump as the official Presidential candidate and Mike Pence as his VP candidate. Many people immediately called Shane Burchett a “visionary” and one of the most respected US journals The Atlantic dedicated an article to him, where Burchett claimed that he didn’t doubt he would increase the investment numerous times. He said that he was negotiating and would try to get a six-digit sum for the domain.

However, several days ago the domain TrumpPence2016.com was renewed and Whois data indicates that Shane Burchett is still the registrant. In relation to this the author at The Domains Raymond Hackney pointed out that the principle “strike while the iron is hot” is quite relevant to the domain business as well. Possibly, Burchett should have moderated his appetites and should have acted a bit more tractable, while his domain was still a sensation and actually was very demanded. However, now when Trump and Pence have taken their positions, obviously, the domain is not in demand anymore. Raymond Hackney points out that domains that use political events or names of politicians are very “perishable goods”. Especially when the domain name also includes a specific date.
