Uniregistry continues to shock

Domain community continues to vigorously discuss the latest actions of Uniregistry. It was reported earlier that it decided to historically increase the registration and renewal fee in its 16 new generic top-level domains (gTLDs). In several domain zones the price increase from autumn will exceed 3000 percent. However, as it turns out appetite of Uniregistry doesn't end there.

OnlineDomain published something extremely interesting. Uniregistry is not only a registry but is also a registrar in its own domain zones. As a registrar it will increase the prices for clients as well. It seems like a reasonable step: when the wholesale price grows, so does the retail price. However, the problem is that Uniregistry registrar adds 62-75% of its own interest to the price increase announced by Uniregistry the registry. As a result the situation is absurd: registrar affiliated with the registry offers higher prices than other registrars. For example, from September (when the price increase comes into force) it will cost approximately 375 dollars (current price is around $30) to register a domain name in .HOSTING from Blacknight registrar, while Blacknight has nothing to do with Uniregistry. Registration fee for the same name in .HOSTING at Uniregistry will be around $499.

Author at OnlineDomain Konstantinos Zournas is positive that current actions of Uniregistry are “a textbook lesson on how to destroy a good and promising company”.
