10 percent of all names in the new domains await deletion

The number of the new generic top-level domains (gTLD) will go down significantly. The Domains quoting ntldstats.com reported this. According to these statistics, as of yesterday there was a total number of 28,818,819 names registered in new gTLDs. However, 2,738,536 of them (which is 9.5 percent) are in “upcoming delete” status. This means that registration of a domain name hasn’t been renewed on time by the registrant and can be deleted very soon.

Therefore, in several weeks the total number of registrations in new domains could drop to 26 million names. Moreover, this number might significantly decrease in June as well. In June 2016 .XYZ registry conducted several large-scale marketing campaigns during which it was possible to register a name for $0.01-0.02. Obviously, this caused a rapid growth in the number of registrations. However, the practice shows that a significant percentage of the registrations made during such marketing campaigns won’t be renewed later on.
