GoDaddy, the world’s largest domain name registrar, has stopped working with new top level general domain names managed by Uniregistry. The media reported that Uniregistry had announced a wholesale price hike on registering domain names and extending them in 16 of its domain zones, effective this coming August-September. In some areas, end users will have to pay 30 times more for annual registration and for extending domain names. GoDaddy’s decision comes as a response to these Uniregistry actions.
Domain Name Wire quotes GoDaddy sources as saying: “We have stopped registering or transferring Uniregistry domain names into our system. The dramatic price hike Uniregistry announced left us no choice. GoDaddy works to deliver a great customer experience.”
But it is impossible to accomplish this in a situation where customers have to pay 3,000 percent more, GoDaddy notes.
