The Third Turkish DNS Forum ends in Istanbul today. This event has been organized since 2014; members of government, key representatives of the Turkish domain industry as well as NGOs attend the event. Moreover, representatives of ICANN and the leading domain registries and registrars of the Middle East take part in the forum. "As the domain name market in Turkey continues to evolve, we are seeing more interest from across the community in discussing various business, technical and legal issues related to the DNS. The Turkey DNS Forum is the place for the community to come together to exchange views not only on past experiences and key current issues, but also the prospects of the industry in the years ahead," said Baher Esmat, VP of Global Stakeholder Engagement in the Middle East, ICANN.
During this forum panel discussions on a wide range of subjects took place such as “Websites and social media in Turkey”, “DNS and cybersecurity” and others. One of the topics for discussion was development prospects of the new geographic gTLDs. This is a pretty wide term that unites domains of specific cities and regions (for example .LONDON or .BAYERN) as well as domains that have no particular relation to a region but serve representatives of national groups (such as New Zealand’s .KIWI or Russian Cyrillic .РУС). It’s noteworthy that these two domains .KIWI and .РУС were called the fastest growing ones among all geographic gTLDs. This has been reported from the official Twitter account of ICANN in Russian.
