Domain topics in Super bowl 2017 ads

Last Sunday so-called Super Bowl – the final match for the championship of the National Football League (NFL) – took place in the United States. This is the central event not only for the sports life of the US, but for the TV business as well. Super Bowl is traditionally considered to be one of the main television shows of the year, it gathers a record audience, therefore, advertising time during Super Bowl is the most expensive. This year the average price to air a 30-second advertising video during the translation cost US$5 million.

However, these prices do not scare away the advertisers. Vice versa, they make every effort to get on air during the Super Bowl. This also applies to the companies working on the domain market. The largest domain registrar in the world GoDaddy showed an ad during Super Bowl broadcast and this year wasn’t the first time. However, this time it advertised a new service to create websites called GoCentral instead of its services to register domain names. By the way, GoDaddy have already said that the ad video was very effective, no other Sunday ad had been as successful as this one, reports Domain Incite.

The ad of another company called Squarespace, which offers hosting services and is the official reseller for Tucows (second biggest domain registrar, GoDaddy’s competitor), was directly related to domain business. The ad was about the problem of cybersquatting. In the plot, the famous actor John Malcovich tries to register a domain name johnmalkovich.com, however, he faces a problem that this name is already taken and he can’t understand how this happened. His assistant reminds him about the storyline of the movie “Being John Malcovich” where other people had a fantastic opportunity to literally get into actor’s brain and control his actions.

It should be mentioned that in reality domain johnmalkovich.com does belong to the actor and he uses it to promote his fashion brand that he has started not long ago.
