“Orient Express” has derailed

The number of new gTLDs that registries terminated has reached 20. The “milestone” 20th domain is .ORIENTEXPRESS, which, as well as 19 other terminated ones, is a dot-brand. Orient-Express Hotels applied for the domain back in 2012. However, in 2014 the company was renamed to Belmond. It was too late to cancel the application, therefore in February 2015 .ORIENTEXPRESS was delegated.

Belmond still operates touristic train Orient Express, however, it seems that the company lost its interest in the brand, famous thanks to the Agatha Christie’s novel. In almost two years only one name, the required by ICANN rules nic.orientexpress, has been registered in the domain. Now Belmond has officially notified ICANN that it doesn’t wish to continue supporting .ORIENTEXPRESS domain and is willing to terminate the contract.
