Domain investor returned OliverStone.com to its legal owner

The CEO of Canadian domain company Name Ninja Bill Sweetman demonstrated an example of true nobility in business. He discovered that domain name OliverStone.com, which it seemed belonged to the famous director Oliver Stone, had been put up for an auction. As it turned out later one, the film company Universal City Studios, which is the registrant of the domain and, therefore, represented Stone's interested, simply forgot to renew the registration, so the domain, in accordance with the registrar's rules, was put up for an auction.

These situations occur from time to time and new owners of celebrities' domains act quite differently. For example, some offer previous owners to get their domain back for a very considerable amount of money or they create a resource that violates copyright. However, Bill Sweetman acted in the most decent way. He took part in the auction and won it by paying US$1500 for OliverStone.com. After that he contacted Oliver Stone's representatives and returned the domain. Moved director thanked Sweetman and reimbursed for his expenses.

DNJournal in the article on this story highlights that it was not the first time when Bill Sweetman acted in such a dignified way. Earlier on, he used the same method to return other domains to their legal owners, such as: PhilCollis.com, FreddieMercury.com and even DarthVader.com. (In the latter case, the domain was not returned to the dark lord or his heirs, but to the George Lucas' Lucasfilm Ltd.)
