President-elect Donald Trump hasn’t moved to the White House yet, but he is “settling in” the domain space already. The Domains quoting the Verisign’s stats reports that in only two days after the election results were announced more than three thousand five hundred names that have President’s last name in it were registered in domain zones .COM and .NET. He has nothing to do with it though – we are mostly talking about “creativity” of Donald Trump’s supporters and opponents. This is evident from the quick review of registered names – from onlytrump.com and lovemelaniatrump.com to ihatetrump.net and motherfuckingtrump.com. General attitude towards the election results is very well represented in the domain icantbelievetrumpispresident.com.
However, it should be understood that Donald Trump is a registered trademark. His lawyers have filed lawsuits under UDRP (Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy) over 100 times to get the control over domains that use the name Trump. Moreover, the owner of the trademark in this situation can go to an ordinary court as well. And the penalty for the violation of copyright in these cases could be up to 100 thousand dollars.
