The attorneys general of Texas, Nevada, Arizona and Oklahoma unilaterally dropped their common lawsuit against the US Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). Domainincite reports that the lawsuit was filed in a Texas court on September 29 in a last minute bid to block the stewardship transition of the IANA from the US government to the internet community. The plaintiffs had claimed that the NTIA did not have the authority to make the decision and filed a lawsuit to block it.
However, on October 3 after the transition had already taken place, Judge George Hanks ruled against the lawsuit. His decision was supported by ICANN and many leading technology and internet companies. The attorneys general reviewed the decision and then unilaterally dropped the lawsuit. It should be noted that the four state attorneys are members of the Republican Party that was the main opponent of the transition.
