Chinese company TLD Registry that manages new gTLDs .在线 and .中文网 announced a significant price reduction in its domain zones. Earlier on, the price of annual registration and its renewal in these domains was about $26. Now it has decreased more than three times to $7.88, reports Domain Incite. TLD Registry announced that such a decision was made “in response to market conditions and after consultation with Registrars.”
It’s logical to assume that the fee was reduced because new domains show, to put it mildly, not the best results. For example, there are about 15 thousand names in the .在线 (means “online”) domain zone, a more than two times decrease from its peak (35 thousand). In the .中文网 (means “website”) domain zone there are 12 thousand domain names; this domain demonstrates decrease as well, even though the fall isn’t that significant (this domain peaked at 17 thousand registrations). Experts point out that Chinese domain investors clearly prefer English-language new gTLDs, first of all .XYZ and .WANG, and obviously ignore IDN domains designed for Chinese users.
