New generic top-level domain .TOP has a fantastic achievement. In only one day in the beginning of the week the number of registered domain names increased by 422 133. This was reported by The Domains, referring to RegistrarStats.com data. The domain is managed by the Chinese registry Jiangsu Bangning Science & Technology and it primarily addressed to Chinese users. Thus, the record growth in registrations confirms that the domain boom in China hasn’t decreased despite analysts’ forecasts who believed the phenomenon to be short-term.
Earlier on, .TOP has already set a record by the number of registrations in one day: on February 16th the number of registrations in the domain increased by 238 616. At that time it seemed that this achievement wouldn’t be excelled for many years, however, only 6 months later the domain far exceeded its own record. There are about 3 million 700 thousand names registered in .TOP at the moment. Judging by this indicator its on the 6th place among all gTLDs; it’s behind .COM, .NET, .ORG, .XYZ and .INFO.
