A list of keywords that were the most used ones in domain names registered in July in domain zones .COM and .NET was published in Verisign’s blog. As expected, keywords «Go» and «Pokemon» lead in the top ten in these top-level domains. Domain space can usually serve as a sensitive barometer that shows the popularity of global trends; meteoric rise of the game Pokemon Go obviously affected the statistics of the new names registration. Another word associated with the game is also ahead of the curve. This is the word «Poke» that is number three in the top-ten keywords in .COM and number four in .NET.
Earlier, experts pointed out that registration on domain names that have the word «Pokemon» in them can in theory be viewed as copyright infringement and cybersquatting since the word is a registered trademark that belongs to Nintendo.
