The Economic Times reports that the government of the country intends to take active measures and increase popularity of the ccTLD .IN in the near future. India is the second biggest nation after China, however, there are only 2.1 million registered names in .IN domain, it’s not even in the TOP-10 ccTLDs. Nationwide advertising campaign that will be launched in a month or two is meant to change the situation. According to joint secretary in the ministry of electronics and IT of India Rajiv Bansal, the campaign will appeal to national pride of Indians.
However, it’s not only about pride. According to The Economic Times, annual registration fee in .IN might be reduced to 2-3 dollars. As a result Indian authorities are willing to increase the number of registered domain names in .IN to 3 million by March next year.
