Verisign has published its Domain Name Industry Brief that covers data on the first quarter of the year. According to the brief, the number of domain names registered in all gTLDs reached 326.4 million as of March 31st. Quarterly growth was 12 million names, annual growth – 32.4 million, in percentages, 3.8 and 11 respectively.
Domain .COM is the undisputed leader, 126.6 million names registered. The report also points out that the average price paid for the purchase of a domain name in .COM zone on the secondary market for 10 largest deals in the first quarter was $315 800.
Domain .XYZ is still the leader among new gTLDs, 16.5% of all registered names in the new gTLDs are .XYZ. Nevertheless, in total all registered names in the new domains comprise a little less than 5% (4.9% to be precise) of all names registered in generic top-level domains.
Russian ccTLD .RU, according to the Brief, is one of five most popular country-code domains and one of ten most popular top-level domains by the number of registrations.
