Catching Pokemons fever that affected the whole world obviously spread to the domain space as well. Domain Name Wire reports that according to the data of the largest registrar GoDaddy in about a week more than 7 thousand Pokemon-related names were registered. The vast majority of them – 6300 names – were obviously registered in .COM. Moreover, users actively “catch Pokemons” in domains .NET, .INFO and .ORG, country code domains of the UK, Germany, the US and India – .CO.UK, .DE, .US, .IN – and new domains .XYZ and .CLUB.
At the same time Domain Investing reported that domain PokemonGo.net was sold for very impressive 20 950 dollars in the end of last week. The deal is one of the biggest in .NET since the beginning of the year.
It should be noted that registration and purchase of Pokemon-related domain names could be risky. The very word “Pokemon” is a registered trademark that belongs to Nintendo. If desired, it could easily blame the owners of any “Pokemon” domain for cyber squatting and most probably win the deal.
