The new top-level domain .PARTY has been losing several thousand name registrations per day and already has less than a half of what it did at its peak, The Domains reported citing RegistrarStats.com. The new domain is addressed to party fans and organizers, as well as producers and retailers of goods for parties, but this time the party has obviously been a bit of a dud. The domain extension was launched in February 2015 but only about 5,600 domain names were registered by May. Concerned over this lack of progress, Famour Four Media, the domain’s operator, made an obvious decision by offering free or deeply discounted registrations (about a half a dollar for a year’s registration), which helped take domain name extension to some 250,000 registrations.
However, practice has shown once again that free or almost free names do not resolve the issue in the long run. When they applied for their first renewals, the number of .party domain names began dropping rapidly to about 107,000.
The same operator’s domain .SCIENCE is doing no better. It also resorted to free and discounted registrations but has lost more than 100,000 names since the start of the renewals.
