On June 9-10, the EuroDIG 2016 (European Dialogue on Internet Governance) conference took place in Brussels, Belgium. Almost 600 delegates from various countries, including a delegation from the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, attended the event. EuroDIG is an open platform for informal discussions and solutions on the key issues of Internet governance.
Conference participants discussed a number of issues on the future of the global network, the development of the Internet of Things, the IANA stewardship transition, the right to be forgotten, cybersecurity, and other current issues. A particular attention was paid to Internet governance: this discussion became one of the stages to prepare for the 2016 Internet Governance Forum (IGF), which is scheduled for December 2016 in Mexico. Speaking during plenary and workshop sessions were renowned European politicians, including Andrus Ansip, Vice President of the European Commission; Thorbjørn Jagland, Secretary General of the Council of Europe; Marina Kaljurand, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia; and Guenther Oettinger, European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society. Coordination Center representatives took part in workshop discussions and exchanged their views on Internet governance in Europe.
The EuroDIG conference has been held annually since 2008. It is not merely a conference but an open continuous network to exchange information, experience and views on new issues related to the Internet. EuroDIG was created at the initiative of many concerned parties from various countries: representatives of governments, international organizations, business circles and civil society. The Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ takes part in EuroDIG on a regular basis.
