Cybercriminals have been using GOV.BD, the government domain of Bangladesh, to create phishing attacks, Netcraft reported. According to the company, the phishing attacks started over a week ago, and domain administrators have taken no steps to eliminate the problems or remove the fraudulent content so far. Unknown cybercriminals have created fraudulent pages that look like those of large companies in the GOV.BD domain, such as Wells Fargo, Google and AOL. The attackers take data that’s entered on forms by users as using a government domain can enhance confidence in fraudulent websites.
According to Netcraft, the situation on the .BD national domain is problematic. Some 30,000 websites use the national domain, where one in 100 sites is engaged in phishing activity. The appearance of phishing pages in the Bangladeshi government domain, the use of which is restricted to government agencies, is a very alarming trend.
