2020 might be the year when the next round of new gTLDs program will be launched, reports news portal Domain Name Wire. Akram Atallah, President of ICANN’s Global Domains Division, told the news on the World Summit of the Information Society that closes today in Geneva. According to him, the deadline of the consideration of all the proposals at the moment at the moment is shifting to the end of 2017, after that significant organizational work will be required. Moreover, taking into account the some changes will have to be applied. As a result by the most optimistic forecasts, the new round won’t start before 1918-1919, and the more realistic date is 2020.
However, this forecast seems rather optimistic too. Domain Name Wire author Andrew Allemann sarcastically noted that “no one ever lost money betting on delays at ICANN.”
