Verisign published a report of the fourth quarter of 2015. As the document shows, as of December 31st last year there were 314 million registered domain names. Domain space increase in comparison with the third quarter of 2015 was about 15 million names or 5%. In comparison with the previous year 2014, the number of domain names registered in the world has increased by 25.9 million, almost 9%.
The absolute leader by the number of registrations is .COM domain zone. As of December 31st there were 124 million names registered. Russian ccTLD .RU, according to report’s statistics, is in the top 5 when it comes to ccTLDs and in top 10 among all generic top-level domains by the number of registrations.
