ICANN approved four IDN ccTLD strings for India

Corporation ICANN has officially announced the successful evaluation of four IDN ccTLD strings for India. All of them were requested by National Internet eXchange of India NIXI on behalf of the government of India. ICANN’s decision gives green light to the appearance of domain names online in four more languages of people in India: Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam and Oriya.

Earlier on ICANN has already delegated seven IDNs for India. It should be noted that a total number of official languages in this country is 23. More than 400 million people speak Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam and Oriya according to the most approximate estimates, which helps to understand the importance of this decision.
