ICANN has announced its successful evaluation of the internationalized domain .бг for Bulgaria, and the string delegation is now to follow.
The domain has had a rough road to approval. Bulgaria submitted its first request six years ago, soon after ICANN adopted its criteria for the evaluation of internationalized domains. The request was denied when experts found .бг to look too similar to Brazil’s .br. Bulgaria disagreed with the decision and appealed it. The reconsideration process took longer than expected but finally culminated in a positive verdict.
