900,000 new domains per day

An incredible increase in new domain registrations started last autumn and continues to gain momentum despite a predicted decline in growth. According to The Domains website, which reported the statistics on RegistrarStats.com, another record was set this past Thursday when almost 900,000 new domains were registered. The number of domain registrations had a net increase of over 750,000 domains. (To calculate the net increase, the amount of deleted domain names is subtracted from the amount of registered domains). This number only includes legacy TLD and new gTLD domain names, but does not include domain zones, as it takes more time to receive statistics on these.

Since January 1, 2016, the gain in legacy TLD and new gTLD domain names was over 6 million names. If that record pace continues, there will be more new domains registered in 2016 worldwide than in the preceding 30 years that the Internet has existed.
