ICANN Corporation has announced the name of the new president - Göran Marby - who currently is Director-General of the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority. “His leadership experience as a technology CEO and start-up founder will be invaluable as ICANN moves towards the next chapter in its history”, said Dr. Stephen Crocker, Chair of the ICANN Board of Directors. From his part, Marby highlighted that he was happy to join ICANN “at the start of a new era for the organization of the community”.
Göran Marby will join ICANN in the role of the president in May of this year. Since current president Fadi Chehadé is leaving his post on March 15th; between mid-March and May Akram Atallah, President of ICANN’s Global Domains Division, will serve as acting CEO.
Göran Marby is 53 years old. He has more than 20 years of experience in tech and Internet companies. Before being employed as Director-General of the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority he co-founded AppGate Network Security AB that specializes in development of security software, he also worked as Country Manager for Cisco in Sweden. Marby is married and has three children. After taking the office as the president of ICANN he plans to move from Stockholm to Los Angeles where the headquarters of the corporation are.
