Harvest week for new gTLDs

Last week proved to be generous in openings. Seven new domains at the same time entered the General Availability phase, reports DomainNameWire. The first company to launch its domain last week was Top Level Spectrum: domain .FEEDBACK became available on Monday for everybody. Even before it was launched the domain had a very controversial reputation. Many blame the registry for using a controversial business model; earlier on it was used by the scandalous domain .SUCKS. They obviously think that large companies will register their brand names in .FEEDBACK during the Sunrise period paying premium prices to avoid third parties to do so. The companies might fear that there will be webpages on the Internet that spread negative feedback about brands using the domain. The peak of activity occurred on Wednesday when 6 new domains entered the General Availability phase. Rightside registry has launched .FAMILY. Donuts – troubled “wine” domains .WINE and .VIN (their fate was remained unsolved because the members of the ICANN’s Governmental Advisory Committee couldn’t agree on the mechanisms of geographical names’ or famous wine producers’ protection). And finally Uniregistry has launched three automotive domains - .AUTO, .CARS and .CAR.

The prices for the annual registration in the new domains differ greatly. Registration in the “family” domain will cost about $25. Fans of wine will have to pay about $40-$50. All three automotive domains are premium names and the registration costs about $2500.
